Sample Preparation
We have 120 m² of area dedicated to sample preparation.
We use the most modern and efficient methods for the production of petrographic thin sections, mineral separates and mounts, as well as rock and mineral powders, ensuring the highest quality in the preparation of your samples.
Petrographic thin sections
Petrographic thin sections are the fundamental basis of most work in Geosciences. They allow the understanding of the composition of rocks and minerals, their textures and structures, the mapping of chemical elements of interest, and the definition of the economic potential of mineral and oil and gas reserves, among many other applications.
We produce thin sections according to the client’s needs, ranging from standard thin sections for optical petrography, thick sections for laser ablation, doubly polished thin sections for fluid inclusion analysis, oriented thin sections for structural studies, and thin sections with specular polishing for analysis by electron probe microanalysis and scanning electron microscopy.
Mineral Separation
We prepare mineral separates such as zircon, pyroxene, mica, and garnet for a wide range of applications.
We use magnetic separation techniques, dense liquids, and manual sorting to ensure the best results. Mineral separates can be delivered loose, in resin mounts (organized or poured), or pulverized.
Rock Pulverization
Rock powders are fundamental for determining the whole-rock chemical composition and for certain isotopic dating methods. We apply strict cleaning protocols to ensure the compositional integrity of the samples, eliminating the risk of cross-contamination.
